No, he has not been found yet.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

That's crazy!! It's almost like he isn't even in the Sierra. Like he didn't want to be found.

If I remember correctly, one of the possibilities was that he was going to do some free solo climbing on the perimeter of a lake. If he fell into the water, conscious or unconscious, and could not get himself out, that would explain the complete disappearance. Not sure, but I don't think they dragged that lake.

Missing friend in Mammoth Lakes /Tuolumne area

Post by Ross939 »

There are countless scenarios that would explain a "complete disappearance" in the high Sierra, that's for sure. Like so many before him, this mystery may never be solved. Just hoping that no other lives are placed at risk in the search for MG.

First real lead possibly confirming Matt's intention to go to the Minarets on the
day of his disappearance.
This is finally some good news and hopefully will bring the family closure.
Posted on Supertopo:

As you all know, Matthew disappeared one year ago this coming Thursday.

Just yesterday, we received some very good information. A group of campers
who were camped near Matthew last year, came back for their annual trip THIS
week. When they saw the posters at Shady Rest regarding Matthew's disappearance,
they remembered him VERY well.

One of these persons asked Matthew to join them on a hike last July 17th....Matthew
politely declined, and told them, "I can't, I'm going out to the Minarets."

That is crazy that they didn't find out about his disappearance until now. I would have assumed that the authorities would have tracked down everyone who had camped near him and questioned them.
