Sierra Thanksgiving!

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Sierra Thanksgiving!

Post by ecowarrior »

I wonder if anyone cares to weigh in with suggestions-
several beloved friends (6-10 adults w/ 4-6 kids)
dream of an 11th hour fantasy vacation-
we want to rent a decent cabin with a workable kitchen
on the west slope over Thanksgiving weekend (11/23-11/25).
Preferrably somewhere between Yosemite & Kings Canyon,
distance from neighbors & relative proximity to trails is a definite plus.
Ideal elevation would be 4,000-7,000 feet
Ideal price < $350 / night (Rustic is cool).
Are we pipe-dreaming?
Yosemite seems virtually hopeless,
but we're flexible & would greatly appreciate
wisdom or guidance from someone in the know!
If you'd prefer to keep your secret Shangri-La off the forum,
feel free to email me directly: ventana@surfnetusa.com
I never forget a favor.
Happy trails!

Have never stayed here or know if they can fit you in, but the location sounds about what you are looking for.

Shaver Lake?

Post by ecowarrior »

A great tip, thank you!
Looks like a very nice spot,
but unfortunately they only have 1 (small) cabin left.
Anyone have recomendations in / near Shaver Lake?
Weather permitting,
could be a fine staging area for hiking & hot-springing.
Only problem I see is that some of the cabins
seem to be in crowded subdivisions.
Is semi-remoteness possible?
