Castle Peak & Andesite -1/26/14

Post by cefire »

Hiked up to Castle Peak (along route 80) and Andesite yesterday. Pretty much snow free once you get out of the woods, off the PCT, up at the pass. Really slippery where the PCT snow has been hard packed - traction made it much easier. From the descriptions, I was expecting a much scarier scramble  turned out to be fun moreso than butt-clinching :D

Was being lazy :o Here's a taster of the edge of the middle turret and the true summit turret. Easiest route to the true summit works low around the right side of the summit block and up a broad gully on the SE aspect.

EDIT to fix picture display

wow! that should be covered in snow about now. on your pic thing, i think if you put in "rimg" instead of "img" on your tags, it will stretch.

Cool, thanks! Yeah, crazy how little snow there is up there - hopefully they get more than expected in the next few days

Cefire,

Did you manage to climb the summit turret? Was there a register up there?

Thanks,

I climbed to the top over Christmas and didn't see a summit register up there.
