Plane crashes
I was wondering what source you all use for plane crash locations? My hiking partner Derek found a piece of a plane on the Western bench of the Kaweahs. I was trying to find some history on planes that have gone down there.

Re: Plane crashes
ok. some might be better than i to answer this..
First this overview shortly after the Fossett incident that pointed to a registry: http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_ ... craft.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So I googled..
And i went here: http://www.1af.acc.af.mil/units/afrcc/a ... /index.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and all i got to so far was: http://www.1af.acc.af.mil/shared/media/ ... 08-032.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
it gives you lat/lon so work it from there.

Re: Plane crashes
In Yosemite, in the Visitors Center (in the back, upstairs) the Historical Park librarian has a large 7.5 TOPO with locations of all the 30+ crashes known in the park. She also had a book, something like: "Death in Yosemite"...pages of crashes listed.
You could call her and ask, if the park was open.

Re: Plane crashes
Back in 2004 I communicated directly with Don Jordan about a missing P-40, which is believed to be in the vicinity of Mount Brewer. Don has a vast amount of knowledge about airplane wrecks in the Sierra and beyond.

South Yosemite -
Always good to be well-armed, this trip chose to carry a 50-cal.
(Mike found the rest of the plane over the next ridge.)

Re: Plane crashes
2 airmen serving their country died in this plane crash in 1944. You disrespect their memory by posing yourself on that gun. Not to mention that you contacted Yosemite to see if you could carry it out for your personal collection. And put yourself on Facebook asking "does this gun make me look fat?" Have some respect.
