Armchair backpackpacker for next 7 months

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Armchair backpackpacker for next 7 months

Post by Wandering Daisy »

I hope everyone writes up good trip reports this winter! Tomorrow my daughter is bringing my 5-year old severely disabled (Angelmans Syndrome) granddaughter who will stay with us until next May. My daughter and family need a break and I offered some respite care. Just about everyone I know says I am crazy! Backpacking my entire life has kept me in shape so I could even think about doing this. Thankfully she will be in kindergarten for a few hours so I can still ride my bike and walk down by the river. Her disabilities are such that camping is not suitable, but we will do some short outdoor activities.

What a great gift you are giving your daughter and her family. Enjoy the special times with your granddaughter.

+3. And treasure every moment with your granddaughter the way you treasure a Sierra sunset and sunrise.

What a challenge. Please take care of yourself by figuring out how to give yourself regular respites.

WD,

Your granddaughter's initials wouldn't be MS?
