Everyday Tripod Alternative

Post by maverick »

Stable, light weight alternative for those who do not want to lug around a heavy
brick tripod but would like something more stable that a mini tripod.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org

this is pretty trick and beats my home made tent pole tripod. I'll have to think this through, but if one could use a stick as the third leg, or just lean against a rock, all it takes is some easily adjusted hiking poles to get a tripod set up in most places without carrying one.

Thing is, my carbon poles don't adjust easily, and my ski touring flip-lock poles are darn heavy... but my carbon tripod with ballhead is 3 pounds so there's quite some savings. Probably the ideal setup for something like a Muir Trail where I usually ditch the tripod.

Maverick-
Thanks for sharing. I think that you may have finally found my backpacking tripod.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
