Recommendations for waterproofing your tent

Post by bsd »

So, on my last camping trip, I noticed my rain fly leaks slightly after years of wear and tear and cleaning I suppose. Anyone recommend a good spray on water proofing?

If your leaks are at the seams, I used this method for my tarptent.

bsd,

what tent do you carry? That makes a difference. As I have a tarptent, i use the technique Ladd refers to.

If you're coated nylon is leaking away from the seams, that's different.

I used the Nikwax spray-on product (I think it's "Tent and Solar Proof") to rejuvenate an old backpacking tent with success. After treatment, water beads up on the surface. It's probably not as good as new, but good enough for moderate use. It took a whole bottle to do a 2-person tent fly.
