Shepherd Pass "Closed"?

Post by SweetSierra »

A friend heard from a staff member at the Interagency office in Lone Pine that the Shepherd Pass trail was "closed" due to the recent storms. I know others here have said the trail was impacted just below Anvil Camp and on the switchbacks just below the pass. Does anyone know if in fact the trail is "closed." I have my doubts. After a 9-day trip we are planning to exit Shepherd Pass in mid-August. Thank you for any information!

This from Inyo NF site:
http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/inyo/rec ... 6&actid=51" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They wrote 2012 instead of 2013 :\ , but no closures indicated.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

I'd be interested in a report on the current conditions once someone has experienced them. I have permits for Kearsarge in a couple of weeks, but was thinking of switching to Shepherd since we'll be spending the majority of the week up around Tyndall/Williamson.

Huh, don't know how I missed that when I looked earlier. Thanks! Looks like we might not save any time coming in Shepherd this time...
