Pilot Knob dayhike 7/6/13

Post by rams »

To introduce a new friend/co-worker from the east coast to the High Sierra, I wanted a trip that would have huge, open views, a combination of trail and cross country travel, lots of lakes, and a chance to climb an easy peak. He said he didn't want any down time and would rather maximize our time being active. With all of that plus the fact that I'd wanted to climb Pilot Knob for some time, our itinerary was set: North Lake-Piute Pass-Lower Desolation Lake-Pilot Knob-Upper Desolation Lake-North Lake. Here's a bunch of photos from our 22 mile, 17 hour day (we're kind of slow).

beautiful pics. Not sure why you had to run through it. A shame. That place needs to be savored.

Very pretty pictures! Sounds like a fun long day hike. Some time in the Sierra is
better than no time. :)

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Nice pictures, I personally like tomahawk lake, I've never ran into anyone there.

I feel my age just reading your trip report. Love the flying dinosaur between Knob Lake and Glacier Divide.

I don't think you are slow. It took us 3-days to do that trek a number of years back - camped at Mesa Lake. The view from Pilot Knob is wonderful - especially of the Glacier Divide.

Beautiful pix, Ramsey! I also did this as a day trip in the Sierra Challenge ~2006. It took me 16 hrs but I wasn't the last one off the mountain.
