Public online computer resources along Eastern Sierra?

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Public online computer resources along Eastern Sierra?

Post by SSSdave »

I'm wondering if some of you know what computer resources are available to the public along the Eastern Sierra that someone without a portable laptop might be able to use and go online with? The only ones I'm aware of are at the Mono Lake Committee center in Lee Vining. They have two machines and charge a modest $2 for 15 minutes. I've used them twice this year, once to find out if a large plume of smoke in the skies was likely to leave and another time to see if what was quite windy conditions were likely to calm up within a couple days. I'd expect at least both Mammoth and Bishop might have such services especially maybe at their libraries. ...David

There are a few locations in Bishop. Bishop Art Supply, Schat Computer, the county library and I think the Looney Bean. There may be a few more that I'm not aware of.

In Mammoth I know the the library and Sierra's Best Coffee. I'm sure there are more up there.

Phew. Someone who really knows should chime in here, but I seem to recall that there was a coffee-house in Lone Pine that advertised WiFi on the premesis. It was on the west side of the street, sort of near the drugstore, if that helps ;)

Mammoth Mountaineering had a computer available for those passing through to check and send email. They may have a WiFi network available for those who travel with laptops.
