North Peak Video, Mount Patterson Photos

Post by ExploreABitMore »

Hi,

Thought I would share some moments from a couple trips recently, while making a shameless plug for my new-ish blog ;-)

(quite the eclectic mix of topics, but much on outdoors stuff!!)

Had a great time going up the NW ridge of N Peak cpl weekends ago

Also, we visited the Sweetwater Range for the first time to hike Mount Patterson on the 4th. What an amazing place! We really loved it up there and definitely see more trips up that way!

Hope everybody had a great 4th of July weekend!

Thanks for the link, kool site, and great pictures. Personally did not care for
the video that much, would prefer more video of the scenery than close-ups
of the rock as you ascended, but that's just my preference.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Thanks Maverick. I hear ya on the video. I actually tried to get a bit more scenery, but my inexperience with the camera (1st time in the mountains with it) ruined it. Didn't realize it was looking "up" more than I was. I did a 360 degree pan on the summit. Turned out to be mostly blue sky, with a very thin strip of mountains at the bottom, lol. Ah well, now I know. In the meantime I thought it made a surprisingly good climbing video for those who like that. I figured this time I'd let the video tell the climbing part of the story and the pictures tell the scenery part ;-)

btw, I took a look through your photos the other day. Very nice! I especially love all the lightning ones. The "electric reflection" shot may be one the best reflecton photos I've seen.

Thanks. One thing that was fun in your video while your were climbing was your
shadow which could make for some creative/comedic editing. :)

Love the North Peak TR and pics.

Very informative... also, a gutsy solo climb. I've learned from years of mountain biking that ridgeline footage taken with a GoPro can be deceptive. The fish-eye effect from that small lens can even make wide ridges look knife edge. Incidentally, Secor rates the Northwest Ridge at I 5.3.

There's a zero chance I will ever go nowhere with that kind of exposure in the video, so although I agree with Maverick's suggestion of more scenery than rock, I still enjoyed your video. A video like that is as close as I'll get aside from looking up from a trail... And I agree, good job of filming your shadow :D.

Btw what music was that in the video?

Glad you guys enjoyed the photos and stuff.

That song is Welcome Home by Radical Face.

Wish I could say I planned that with the shadow, but truth is I didn't even notice it while I was out there. Who knew it would make for some nice video clips!

Pretty cool TR. I just did North Peak on Wednesday(7/10). Went up the chute just left of the summit on the east side(above Conness Lakes). Your ridge route looks awesome! If I do NP again, THAT will be my route of choice. The class 2 route from Conness must be brutal. I descended that way and told myself NEVER to try and ascend that slop.

Anyway, did YOU steal the summit register? :)

So, I wasn't the only one who couldn't find it! Too bad - I guess it disappeared like many in the Sierra seem to be doing these days. I was hoping to find my entry from 7-8 yrs ago :(

I think you'll really like the NW ridge route when you go back. It was definitely a fun route.
