A heads up.......

Post by Snowtrout »

Heard from a friend (and then called Prather and the forest service can't deny this) that there will be a forest order that will prohibit any campfires in the Sierra national forest and its wilderness areas on July 1.

Has anyone else heard this? Guessing they are going to copy what the sequoia national forest did in may.

I heard the same thing on the radio news. They also said that "stoves and gas lanterns would only be allowed in designated camp sites" or something to that effect. I haven't looked up anything yet.

Edit: it's true.

The link to the map that shows the "ok for gas stoves" areas is no good, but it says it includes wilderness.

Just read that sequoia national forest has banned all campfires in that forest, even some campgrounds, and you need a fire permit for a stove and lantern.

Does this include the PCS? Like a Jetboil?

As it reads for Sequoia, as long as you have a wilderness permit or fire permit, you are ok with a liquid/propane/canister stove. Just no campfires.

I would call to double check though.

Apparently there are fire restrictions all along the PCT, Yosemite south.
