Weather Forecast 09.18.06

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Sat I was at Onion Valley. 26 deg at 7am. Not sure what temps were, but I wore a tank with a light shirt most of the day. At 12K I put my jacket on, only because we dropped our packs and went for the summit. Just the shirt would have been ok.

Sun I was at Cottonwood Lakes and started off with zip pants. After the first hour I unzipped. Wore shorts and a tank most of the day, put on a long sleeve shirt from ~12K. A little breezy at 12,800'

Thanks for the reports!

Snow Nymph:

FYI: Aspendell got winds of 61 mph on Friday and the RAWS Station very close to Fort Independence got 73 mph. Ice pellets and high winds were reported to me on Friday at Russell/Carillion pass. Good choice going on Sat/Sun.

Dennis: were those winds in the forecast? I'm expecting to be in the Sierra all next week and am wondering how far in advance something like that can be forecast. Was it like that just in the valley? hmmm. I don't think I'd like to be at 12K in something like that. YIKES!
