Hetch Hetchy road closure

Post by tim »

I mentioned this in another post, but thought it worth noting in a separate topic in case anyone has more information.

Hetch Hetchy road is closed indefinitely due to road damage (major landslip). Apparently it may not be re-opened in time for Memorial Day weekend. According to one report from someone on-site:
"My guess (only a personal guess) is that the road will not open to the public until mid-summer....like July-ish. Depending on the length of construction, I wouldn't be surprised if it were closed beyond July"

Looks like it is now open. Good. I was planning to take my noob backpacker friend on the HH loop. This time I plan on visiting Falls Creek up canyon a ways, because the last time I was there early season, I saw in the distance a "waterwheel" on the creek. The last time I passed through that part of the creek it was too late in the season to see this.
