Erin Lake- Miter Basin

Post by richlong8 »

Anyone out there personally visited Erin Lake in Miter Basin? Photos or info? It seems to me like Erin, Primrose, or Iridescent lakes might be a much more isolated place to spend a night than Sky Blue Lake, if there is a flat spot to be found. PM's ok. Thanks.

I have stayed at Erin before and there numerous bivy spots there, but since
no photos were taken at the time here are two links that will show Erin.

Scroll towards the bottom for photos:

Hope that helps Rich.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Thanks maverick. Those were the only links I could find as well. I think it is a safe bet that Erin will be not visited much, and maybe a good photo op the way the topo looks. Primrose might be a little more hospitable for an overnight camp spot.

I heard iridescent may have some good fishing if that makes any difference to you, rich. Wanted to get up there last year when I was in that area, but the fishing was too good down below.

Fishing always matters! Iridescent is supposed to be quite pretty, acc. to Phil Arnot in his book, High Sierra.

Thanks very much. Doesn't look like the greenest place in the Sierra!

I have not been to Erin lake but you also mentioned Primrose. If I remember correctly (it was 2009 when I was there) there was a spot or two at the outlet of Primrose Lake, sorry no pics of that end of the lake. There is a great beach at the far end of the lake. Here is a pic looking down on Primrose back toward Miter Basin.

We camped at Soldier Lake and then hike to Mount Pickering via the Erin Lake Drainage a couple years back. Here are photos from the trip:
