Camp at Dale Lake - Red Mountain Basin above Hell for Sure t

Post by perkins75 »

Has anyone camped at Dale Lake (Red Mountain Basin) above the Hell for Sure Pass trail? Is the camping better at Lower Indian Lake? Or is Rae lake the best place to camp? Has anyone camped at Upper Indian Lake or is it pretty barren? How about the creek between Upper and Lower Indian Lake?

Every ones priorities are different, what makes a photographer happy may not
work for a fisherman/woman.
Here is a TR which contains photos of a lot of lakes in the Red Mountain Basin:

Two photos of 2 of the lakes in question:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/psa104/4626191302/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Do some research, dig up some photos using HST, TR's posted on the internet, and look
through possible photos on flickr for example, and make you own decision on which
would be the best for you.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org

Dale Lake used to be one of my favorite camp spots in the Red Mountain Basin. Lately, I've stayed at Rae Lake or Disappointment Lake most of the time. There are some really neat campsites west of Lower Indian Lake. The area west and east of the LeConte/White Divide is one of my favorites and I have posted a dozen reports for this area at my website - http://www.sierrahiker.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

LeConte/White Divide reports are listed at:
http://sierrahiker.home.comcast.net/~si ... index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The report specific to the many lakes of the Red Mountain Basin is at:
http://sierrahiker.home.comcast.net/~si ... index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
