The wolf is no dummy. That area is the winter range for the Tehama deer herd. The Ishi Wilderness, non-wilderness NF lands managed for wildlife, the Nature Conservancy Dye Creek Ranch, and state Fish & Game lands all form a contiguous parcel of good hunting prospects.

Some minor errors in the article. The area where he spent the summer is not Plumas NF, it is Lassen NF Almanor Ranger District.
