Bear bells

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Bear bells

Post by hikerduane »

:) What a hoot. On my week long solo trip into the JM Wilderness a couple weeks ago, I heard then realized on two different days that people had to have been wearing bear bells on there boots or person. I just smiled to myself and kept my thoughts to myself since I was on vacation and should be nice. I need another dog, since the only time I have seen bears now have been when Pooch was with me. From Mono Creek to the Marble Mt. Wilderness, we saw plenty of sows with cubs and they all ran or went up a tree.
Piece of cake.

I'm sure the bears were happy to have avoided those people. ;)

Every time I hear about bear bells, I think about a white-robed, Gandalf-life figure raising up a staff with bells on it, shaking it at a large brown Kodiak as he sizes up the noise-maker for an after-lunch snack! ;)

Sorry, but that's just the image I get! :p
