Goat Rocks (WA) 8/27 to 8/30

Post by TehipiteTom »

Last week I did a trip with my son and his girlfriend in Goat Rocks Wilderness--my first-ever trip in the Cascades.

Day One was Snowgrass Trailhead to Cispus Basin, with an afternoon dayhike to Cispus Pass.

Day Two was Cispus Basin to Alpine Camp, with a short afternoon dayhike a ways up the PCT.

Day Three was Alpine Camp to Jordan Basin. It was socked in all morning and much of the afternoon, but cleared by early evening.

Day Four, out to the trailhead, was perfectly clear with some spectacular views of Mt. Rainier. Unfortunately, my camera battery had run out (apparently it hadn't properly charged), so I have no photos of the last day.

A great trip--spectacular country, and fairly decent weather by Cascades standards.

Thanks!

That was Goat Lake--still frozen at the end of August! Last winter was nearly as wet for the Pacific Northwest as it was dry for us.
