Temporary Wilderness Firefighters

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

When this story first broke several months age, several media bloggers tried to lambast the Forest Service for not giving their employees health insurance. The FS responded by pointing out they have been trying to do it for years, but congress kept blocking the required legislation. After the story became public congress quickly and quietly passed the required legislation.

Alas, it only applies to firefighters and not seasonals in general -- rangers, for instance.

Still, a great victory for them and long overdue.

Hopefully this starts a trend George, and seasonal rangers will be next!
