Conditions on Glen Pass?

Post by EasternSierra »

Does anyone know what the conditions are like on Glen Pass?

I'm taking some friends on the Rae Lakes Loop June 30 through July 4 and I'm wondering if we're going to have any problems, if we should bring crampons/ice axe, or if trekking poles will be fine.

Two weekends ago, PCTers were going over. I would have too, except that it snowed all Saturday. I met some guys who had come over going north - south, and they said crampons weren't needed, only microspikes, although it was a bit tricky since apparently they had to break trail. However, I'd bet a lot of the snow has melted since then.

By June 30 it will be a total breeze. I went over last year during July 4, just with microspikes, and we're about 7 weeks ahead in terms of snowmelt now.
