Merced - Fernandez - Post Peak Loop in Yosemite

Post by bdynkin »

Hello,

Here is the link to the pictures of our recent (5/21-26) trip there.

https://picasaweb.google.com/1026838520 ... directlink" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I annotated the photos so hopefully it works as a brief trip report as well. The map is huge so give it some time when opening to full size if you want the little details.

Thank you all for your help when I was planning it. However, where was everybody? We met the first people on our 5th day there!

Regards,

Boris and Nastia

Hi Boris,

Great TR and pictures!! Thanks for sharing. It looks like you had a great time. I have been in that neck of the woods and it is beautiful.

That waterfall is Nevada. I was up there on Saturday. Did you see the raptor nest on the cliff on the south side of Nevada?

Thanks,

-Russ

Thanks Boris, really enjoyed the photo's. Good to see Harriet at a little over 10200ft
ore than halfway thawed out. It will allow others to gauge the conditions at other lakes
in the area.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Thanks for the great photos. I love this upper Merced River region.

Not to nit-pick, but the lake you identify in photo #33 is not Harriet Lake - unless your camera
has x-ray vision, since Isberg Peak and the ridge extending NE are completely in the way. :)
Your photo looks like Lake 10005, directly west of Isberg Peak.

Oh, and your red alien creatures at the beginning are Snow Plant (see

Phil your right, Harriet doesn't have trees near the shoreline as this lake, but neither does
Lake 10005, and Lake 10005 is more longish like a watermelon and not round like what
the lake in the picture looks like, though the right side of the picture is cut off, and
taken from higher up at an angle it could be 10005.

Lakes.jpg
Phil,

Yes, I stand corrected, the lake on that photo is not even that close to Harriet Lake. Here is a shot from the ridge without extreme zoom. You can see another small lake to the left so these must be two lakes right below Isberg Peak.

And thanks to pointing to this strange Snow Plant. We were quite fascinating by it and never seen anything like it.

That shot puts things much more clearly in perspective (for some reason did
not remember so many trees, though it was over 20 years ago) and it is definitely
Lake 10005, especially now that the smaller lake to the west of it is in
view, and also the ridge line running north of the lake fits the bill.

Yep. We camped there last year. Lovely spot. Here's a couple of photos

This first is of lake 1005 from Isberg Pass

And here's a shot from the North Shore, showing the trees and the Clark Range behind:
