Agnew Lake - June 26, 2006

Post by Ratboy »

Again, another installment of our vacation along the great 395, which took us on a day hike to Agnew Lake for a bite of lunch.

Here is a brief sample of the sights and goings on:

Super stuff! I drove the June Lake Loop last weekend on my way back home and that waterfall is incredible right now!

They call it Horsetail Falls, I wanted to hike to where it came from, so Agnew it was. We were lucky enough to be staying for a few nights at the Double Eagle, getting cleaned up and all after some time in the dust at Oh Ridge with friends.

The fall was off the hook, as were most places involving water. June Lake Loop really reminded us a bit of Estes Park, albeit lower in altitude, but same idea, really cool place with neat stuff tucked away from everything else.

Just wish I lived closer. 5-6 hours is one hell of a drive at times.

Ahh, alas, such is my plight.

I think ... this is the falls you can see from silver lake campground. If so... i remember a crazy scramble/hike me and my brothers did straight up the falls. It was in summer and the water level was much lower, but we scrambled up the falls. Horrible, slate and tall brush all the way up it beat us up pretty good. As i remember we ran into a pretty narrow canyon up there with a drop off the creek was running off and we decided not to risk it and turned around. Fun memories. I don't think i have ever seen it that full before.

It was quite amazing. Taking the Rush Creek Trailhead up to Agnew takes you right alongside, for the most part, of the falls, up past the creek from which it comes via Agnew Lake and the dam. Reminded me a lot of the log ride at Disney or Knotts.

The water was very swift, i.e., freaking fast and full. Was an awesome sight. Also, it rumbled through the area, very cool.

Another neat thing was the track laid for the SCE People Hauler which takes folks willing to pay up to Agnew Lake. Saved some time coming down using it as steps, but going up was a bit different. Nothing like the direct route, like stairs in a high rise. I found it quite exhilerating, but my wife paints a bit of a different picture.

Very cool area! Your dog looked like he was having fun! Looks like he's a ham with the camera! :D

Snowy, our dog loved the place. SHE really likes to get into the snow.

Check out the video from Virginia Lakes if you get a chance....
