Onion Valley - July 1-3, 2006

Post by Ratboy »

Another installment of our vacation along the great 395, Onion Valley Campground. Just a sample of our day hike to Kearsarge Pass during our stay. The weather and company were perfect.

Ratboy, very nice pictures  What kind of temps did you have at night at Onion Valley CG? I'm going with a group to Matlock Lake at the end of the month and have never camped at that altitude before. I know it's the Sierras and that means unpredictable but I don't want to over pack or even worse get caught unprepared. I'll be taking thermals and a rain shell I'm just not sure how much coat to go with it, anybody?

Onion Valley CG is at 9200', day temps were around 75, night temps around 45...but this two weeks ago.

Best bet, go layered. You should be fine with the rain shell provided you can layer 1-2 shirt underneath. I am also partial to taking a fleece jacket just as a comfort.
