Mystery Photo: Where in the Sierra Nevada or is it elsewhere

A place to explore the natural setting (geology, flora & fauna), people, constructed infrastructure and historical events that play and have played a part in shaping the Sierra Nevada as we know it today.

Mystery Photo: Where in the Sierra Nevada or is it elsewhere

Post by mepstein »

This photo was taken around 1910. I'm needing to figure out where for a book I'm writing. Note the "wall" in the background. Could this be Tioga Pass?

That "wall" looks like it could be snow fence.

That scene doesn't look immediately familiar. It isn't Tioga Pass, for the background does match. I can't think of any place in the Sierra that matches this view.
Since my fishing (etc.) website is still down, you can be distracted by geology stuff at: http://www.fresnostate.edu/csm/ees/facu ... ayshi.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sorry to be of no help to your original question (where is this?), but I have to echo what Mike said. The "wall" in the background looks like a dam.

Are you sure that the photo is even in the US? People riding donkeys hasn't been real common in the US.
