First "back" country hike!

Karen has asked me to take her on a hike to a lake...to fly fish!!! This will her first outing since her second knee replacement on the same knee. I was thinking, maybe, Mack or to Marsh lake. Are they a difficult walk on the trail? Is anyone familiar with the trail?

I have'nt been to Mack or Marsh lakes, but since Karen had some knee issues, keep it simple. Don't want to push it yet. Is this a day hike or overnight trip? There are many easy hikes that you guys can do.

If knees require a flat walk, the trail from Rock Creek Lodge (about 7 miles up RC Road, on left) towards Rock Creek Lake is not only level, but an absolute stunner thru the trees and wildflowers following the creek which widens to a slowly meandering "river" ((not a lake but almost looks like one) before the climb to to the lake. Fish really jump in late afternoon. The first few lakes out of Saddlebag are an easy walk, I have no info about fishing. The water taxi runs until the end of Sept.

The trail out of Mosquito Flats is super easy up to Mack and Marsh. We saw a group of 50 or so seniors making the dayhike, only about 2-300 foot of gain over a couple miles.

A group of 50??? Yikes!! I was lucky a few years back to have the trail to myself all the way to Gem Lakes, then over to Chickenfoot one beautiful August day. What an unexpected treat that was!

Howdy Ariel, nice to see you here on HST.
I think the lakes you mention would be a good choice. It is a very clear trail with little eleveation gain and beautiful scenery. Enough little brookies to keep it fun with the chance of something nicer. If Karen is feeling good you can fish and hike your way on to some of the other lakes. I'd be sure and take trekking poles with you. They can really help with the knees.
