need quick campgroud advice lee vining

Post by sparky »

My nephew is driving in from boulder, co to meet me for a backpack in yosemite. I will be heading up late Thursday night, and we need a place to meet up to get supplies in mammoth.

He will arrive first....I need to tell him where to go! There's a lot of options, but can anyone suggest anywhere with quick access to mammoth ?

Hey Sparky-

Call this # 760-935-4221

I can get you a camping spot. 10 miles south of Mammoth.
Jazz Jubilee is happening in Mammoth this week. It will be tough to get a spot there.

If you have a wilderness permit you can stay in any of the Yosemite backpacker campgrounds the day before your permit date and the day after you return. No reservations required. Toulumne meadows is the closest one to Lee Vining. I'm pretty sure it's open now - they were having problems with the sewage system.

TM Campground might open Friday. Store is open but grill is not.

Wild bill....awesome. Its 11:15 pm now, hopefully it is available tomorrow. If its gone, no worries I have back up plans.

Need to get fueled up and a little grocery shopping before hitting tioga road. He is not familiar with the area, and he will arrive first and be asleep before we roll in. If not any 4x4 national forest road will do.

he says he is in shape and ready for anything hahaha....I will keep it mellow heh but I can't wait to see his face when confronted with the yosemite backcountry...
