Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.
I just read the piece in Backpacker Magazine on him and notice gdurgee was mentioned a number of times. It's a good article. Has anyone read the book on Morgenson? (the Last Season)
George: If you care to share, what are your thoughts?
For those curious, here are a couple snips from the web:
THE LAST SEASON TELLS THE INSPIRING, POIGNANT TRUE STORY OF THE LIFE AND MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE OF JAMES RANDALL MORGENSON WHO, over the course of 28 summers spent in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains, became arguably the most celebrated ranger in the National Park Service's most adventurous unit
On the morning of July 21, 1996, Randy Morgenson tied together the tent flaps of his ranger station at Bench Lake in Kings Canyon National Park and went on patrol. He was never heard from again. What happened to Morgenson and how that story was pieced together is the subject of Eric Blehm's The Last Season.
The book "The Last Season" is out now. We carry it at the Kings Canyon Visitor Center. It might be out at Borders? That was a very intense and emotional summer for all of us that were involved in the search for Randy. Going into details here would get pretty long. I highly incourage folks to read the book. It gives a pretty good portrayal of the life of a backcountry ranger here in SEKI.
