Mike M.(of HST fame) chugs through the Ionian Basin. That's the White Divide in the background. This place will shred Vibram Five Fingers!

A vintage Kodachrome I shot on top of North Palisade in 1979. We hiked up from Barretts lake early in the morning, and only used the rope in one exposed spot, but it wasn't a big deal. Those are my Vasque "blister makers", probably the most expensive and worst pair of boots I have ever owned. I never broke them in even though I used them for a couple of seasons. I threw them in the closet and started experimenting with tennis shoes, work boots and even Air Jordans, until lightweight hikers hit the market.
