Most visited sections?

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Most visited sections?

Post by maverick »

During your long or short backpacking career which 3 of these areas in the Sierra Nevada
have you visited the most? 1. E 2. F 3. D

A. Tahoe Basin to Northern Border of Yosemite

B. Yosemite NP

C. Sierra NF

D. Inyo NF

E. Kings Canyon NP

F. Sequoia NP

G. Sequoia NF

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org

Either A or B. WE have a friend in Sonora whose house often serves as a launch pad for our hikes. I think we've done more in Yosemite, but some of those also started in Emigrant. ANd when you include Desolation, Carson-Iceberg, Emigrant and Carson Pass all in one area....

Nope. Still more in Yosemite.

I am not exactly sure on the statistics, given that it has been so many trips. I think there are some gaps here because the north part of the east side is actually Toiyabe, but perhaps this counts as "A". Also my "A" would extend well north of Tahoe Basin. Prior to about 1993 I think the spread of trips would have been 1. D overwhelmingly, with 2. being fairly close between E and B.

1993-2005 saw a significant increase in trips in the northern Sierra from Desolation northward, so that it would have been something like. 1. A, 2. E. and D. nearly tied, and not too far behind no.1. 4. C and B fairly close. From 1993-1997 A,E, and D were more or less equal for no. 1, then the longer trips tailed off after 1998, so E wasn't as frequently visited, unfortunately.

Since moving to Fresno in 2005 and also reducing the number of trips (trend started in 2002 with arrival of first child) it's been 1. overwhelmingly C, 2. B
Since my fishing (etc.) website is still down, you can be distracted by geology stuff at: http://www.fresnostate.edu/csm/ees/facu ... ayshi.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Evenly distributed in all areas Yosemite and south, both east and west sides. For some reason I am not fond of the Tahoe area and do little backpacking north of Sonora Pass.

Taking in the last 35 years, it would break down to:

1. B
2. D
3. E

If I take in only the last 15 years it's more:

1. D (and that's partially to get into E and F from trailheads).
2. E
3. F
I don’t need a goal destination. I need a destination that meets my goals.

Probably missing out on SEKI.. It just looked steep w/o nice fishing.. maybe a false perception on my part.

I've lived in Clovis since 95 so C is the closest and my top 3 would be:

1. C,
2. E, and
3. D.

But if I have my way, I'll visit them all at least once!!!
