As mentioned in an earlier post I was going to be posting the shots that were the most
popular at my shows during the year, leaving the most popular for next week.
Here we have 2 photo's, one which shows the building of the storm over Half Dome.
The clouds were just mesmerizing, almost hypnotic as they built up into a towering
mass of gray power.
I just love the black & white treatment for both of these photo's since they really
are basic, but focus, and convey the mood, much better than color could.
I had to upload the photo in a vertical position otherwise it would have been to small
and cut, just turn your screen.
The second photo is the "piece de resistance" not only because of what you shall see
in it, but those of you who have been on HD know, that going up in stormy weather
is dangerous, and deadly, because of this exact reason.
I would not have gone up in weather like this, even though having been labeled a
"lightning chaser" by a lot of folks, most of my photo's taken of lightning are
taken at a distance, though there have been times that things got very hairy, and I did
not particularly enjoyed being in those situations.
If you have been on the cables, put yourself into the position of the folks that are
on the cables, which is hard to see in such small photo's, but can be seen quite
easily on a 24x36 print.
One word comes to my mind "Scarrrrrry"!
Merry Christmas to all!

Simply stunning. I had sunny weather when I shot from Olmstead.

Re: Half Dome Series
Great dynamic shots Mav...(Chin too)...nice work.
Reminds me of the time, many years ago, when we were atop the Dome and a quick thunderstorm bounced up unexpectedly. Back then, (late 1970's), the park (occasionally I guess) sent a helicopter up to ferry all those on the rock - off, to safety. Two at a time they made us take the ride (not much we could say...sounded official and it was a free helicopter adventure in the park); we climbed in and within 15 minutes, we were standing in the Ahwahnee Meadow looking up. Only problem was that all our gear was still set up in LYV.

Re: Half Dome Series
Thanks ChinMusic.
Yes Tom, I would be flying down the cables as fast as I could, done much faster
when the poles are not up, almost repelling.
Thanks Markskor, it was very dynamic.
Free ride, wonder when the last time was that they gave a free helo ride off of
Half Dome during a thunderstorm?
Maybe some member here from SAR could chime in on that one.
