Mid October trip to granite park

Post by nevadasmith »

I have some photos here that I took on a recent trip to granite park
(eastern sierra's) I returned on 10-17-10.
weather was nice at first but then I got snowed on at granite park, Then on the last night
It snowed all night long at honeymoon lake & was still snowing as I trekked down a slippery
trail Sunday morning. Fishing was good..caught Goldens,Bow's, Brookie's, & Browns.
released most of them, & ate just a few. No pics of the trout as they were all
little dude's under 10" during the 5 days I only seen 5 others up there, & they all packed up
& fled before things got wet.

Great pictures. Only five others? Sounds like you pretty much had the entire basin to yourself. Looks like you had a good time. Can get tricky getting out of there when the snow arrives but it doesn't get any better in my opion. Did you see any cat tracks in the snow?

No cat tracks. there were some fresh tracks down at lower pine lake, looked like bear.
there were 3 guys & their dog up in the high country & two other older guys down at honeymoon.
the older chaps were real generous & cooked Me some blueberry/buttermilk/maca root pancakes & hot starbucks coffee. These guys even packed eggs & made Me a machaca burrito with salsa!
I was planning on a day at the Royce lakes but the weather cut My trip short. It was a good trip & no mosquito bites, but I did get what looked like a spider bite.

Great TR and thanks for posting, great pics. Couple of nice views of Granite-Bear Pass in very late season. Looks like the right side just about melted through- or at least far enough such that it would be a go. Would love to see more TR's from Oct. till?.....

Very cool to see that area this late into the season, and the solitude must have been
great, thanks for the TR, and especially the pic's.

Nice to see pics from up canyon...thanks.

Rain and snowmelt had us (Pine Creek) with almost springlike runoff for a couple of days.
