The old "two moons this weekend" email popped up again.

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

The old "two moons this weekend" email popped up again.

Just got the annual "two moons this August" email. From my wife's uncle, with several grad degrees in various sciences, no less.

It circulates every year about this time, that "Mars will be so bright it will appear as bright as a full moon. The next time it happens will be 2287".

No, it happens every other year or so. And the change in brightness has been described as looking at a porchlight 2 blocks away and noting it is a 75 watt bulb instead of a 60 watt. About 15 seconds of googling will debunk the story.

:soapbox:
