Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.
My wife and I were paddling on Walker Lake this morning (the Lassen County one). Weather was perfect -- no wind, sunny but still pleasantly cool, not a cloud in the sky. The waterfowl were abundant, all seemingly with little ones in tow. It is a good year for avian procreation.
We were paddling a short distance up Goodrich Creek trying to get a closer at a pair of Sandhill
Cranes in the meadow. I commented that this is perfect habitat for meadowlarks, yet they are not in abundance here. A few are occasionally seen, but they are not common. Not thirty seconds later my wife told me look at 3:00 at the nearby fence post. Sure enough, a meadowlark -- staring at me, almost mocking my statement by bursting into song.
