How do you think this summer's Sierra mosquito epidemic will play out?

The last few years mosquitoes have not been too bad at all. Young newbies who've only been out for a decade are in for an unpleasant surprise. However this year with the exceptional amount of still melting snow at mid and lower forest elevations, my suspicion is the season will start slowly, then by late June quickly get really bad and by mid July be miserable below the snow line. With the huge population set forth in that first stage, they will then lay the second stage batch of eggs in the considerable melting from timberline areas and by the end of July the higher areas we all prefer to backpack at will be relatively bad. And that will last into mid August when a delayed bumper crop of dragonflies and damselflies will deplete squeeter numbers in many places.

So a good time to get all the bug gear in place.
