Lots of people just drive past Mono Lake, and the people who do visit South
Tufa take pictures from the parking lot, or walk between the tufa for a few
minutes and leave.
The place is magical at the golden hours, and beyond.
Like most place the weather needs to co-operate, meaning for me the best
time is right before/after, or the morning after a storm.
The colors at these times are outstanding and well worth the wait, but again
the circumstances/light have to be just right, as with any photo opp.

Hey Mav

I just spent the night up in the Mono Basin, just got back. Went to see your shot but all locked up?

Whoa, Maverick!
Your images are beautiful. If you need positive feedback from THIS bunch, just say so.
I got the hint. HST would not be the same if you bailed on us now, buddy. I love our work, keep it up!

It is a beautiful picture. Seems i can get to it, but i hit it soon after you posted so maybe it's cached on my pc. I would love to see the same picture with the water level about 25' higher and you in a wetsuit at the same position.. :) Kinda like it used to be..

All my pics of Mono are usually taken by whomever is riding shotgun as we leave the park and head North. Hence i have no really good shots of Mono Lk either. I stopped there once and walked around and the Tuffas are amazing. Sad they are not still in their element.
