What is your comfort food or drink in the back country?

Post by maverick »

Alcohol, coffee, or chocolate to name a few.
I do not drink or smoke, but love to eat some dark chocolate, 70% and above.
Occasionally I hold chocolate tasting parties at work so this is a good excuse to
take 2-3 different bars with me to enjoy after dinner on each trip so I can narrow
down my choices for the next tasting.
If you love chocolate and are interested in trying some different types beyond what
you find in your local stores try the link I provided below.
I have use them numerous times for purchasing chocolate for my tasting parties and
they have a huge selection.
If the huge selection intimidates you I'll be happy to help in narrowing down the choices.

Nothing too exciting here, but after dinner I really enjoy a cup of tea and watch the sunset. Chamomile or mint are my favorites. I normally like honey with my tea but I don’t carry it on backpacking trips because of the weight, but I recently found a granulated honey that I’m really happy with - it has good flavor, but not the weight of "regular" honey http://www.honeycrystals.com/HoneyCrystals.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ahh! always looking for something new!

Today I found some Raspberry Almond M&Ms at our Grocery Outlet. Tried them and will buy some more.

In the morning I love a mocha

Cocktails (151 and lemonade or limeaide), summer sausage, smoked gouda, wasabi peas, and honey roasted peanuts are always available for Happy Hour.

Trout.

Damn, now I'm going to go sneak some of those almonds before bed!

Sipping a good dry gin, straight, before dinner. Green tea or good dripped coffee in the AM. If my pack is getting too heavy, the coffee stays at the trailhead.

I found those once at a gas station in Joshua Tree, and have not seen them since. :yummy:

Gotta have dark chocolate! I'll check that link!

Freestone I also enjoy a good cup of green tea my favorite is Tazo's Lotus.
Snowy I detect the words of a fellow chocoholic!
Chocosphere will definitely satisfy your cravings.
I misspelled Chocosphere leaving out the "p" in the link but has now been
updated, sorry.
Under "looking for specific brand" scroll down to a brand like Domori and click
on it to get all the chocolates produce by them.

Here are some recommendations:
1. Michel Cluizel- 1er Crude Plantation Hacienda "Los Ancones" 67% (French)
2. Domori- Porcelana 70% (Italian)
3. Neuhaus- West Africa Dark 73% (Belgium)
4. Dolfin- Chocolate Au Lait Hot Masala 32% (Belgium) This is milk chocolate not
something I would normally recommend, but the masala flavor combined with the
milk chocolate is divine, especially if you like indian masala, which I do!
This was a winner at one of my chocolate tastings.

I always bring along enough instant hot cider to have a cup every evening while I watch the sunset. I confess I've just started bringing a wee dram of Scotch (usually an inexpensive blend) as well, for right after dinner.
