Super Cheap, Light, Quick, Chili Mac

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Super Cheap, Light, Quick, Chili Mac

Post by Hetchy »

I took 1 cup of minute rice
added 1 cup of macaroni noodles(mac and cheese box)
added ground garlic, hefty dash
added butter buds, dash
added 1/4 cup Non Fat Milk Powder
added dehydrated onion bits
added 1 packet of Schilling Chili spice 1.4 oz
added 1/2 Cheese packet from Mac n cheese
small handfull of bacon pieces(REAL bacon bits)
All the above into my pot and added 2 1/2 cups of H2O
Brought to boil stirring waited 1 minute and shut off stove
Covered pot and put into cozy(Warm hat)
Waited 15 minutes
The result is Spicy Cheesy Chili Macaroni :yummy:
P.S. The longer is sits the thicker it gets. The rice really takes on the character of a texas Chili when saturated with the chili cheese sauce. :yummy:

It sounds good but how much did it make? Looks like it would be at least a two serving meal.

You are right Gary C. I just made it again but in my .7 liter pot and it is a bit much! It is also better with a bit more water in proportion to dry ingredients. I used Lawry's chili sauce tonight! I had no idea I could even make something I actually enjoy eating out of such simple ingredients.
Next I am going to try a pesto noodle dish. I like pesto and alfredo type sauces with flat noodles.
The whole grain flat noodles I bought(10 tons of!) seem to cook with only a few minutes boiling and then into the cozy. Sure saves a lot of fuel!
I will let you know what I come up with! :D

I'll be interested in how things go. I filled all 5 trays in the dehydrator today and plan to try some meals in the next couple of weeks.
