Devils Punchbowl 3/14/09

Post by trav867 »

Drove up to the Devil's Punchbowl, just south of Palmdale on the north face of the San Gabriel mountains for a little day hike. It's an interesting area both for its geology and because at about 5000 ft, its in a transition zone between the desert and pine forest. Used my Dads circa 1975 Canon FTb for fun, the whole gallery is here: http://www.slide.com/r/ismDtFgX1j8HmD_qTTRFPxJ94RDDiqDX

The punchbowl is a great place for a day hike. I've day hiked up there a couple of times in the last month. The first one was right after a snowfall and it was really beautiful.

"On this proud and beautiful mountain we have lived hours of fraternal, warm and exalting nobility. Here for a few days we have ceased to be slaves and have really been men. It is hard to return to servitude."
