Unless the guy is lying, he's saying it's a real photo. Shooting a wide angle from Tunnel View will yield a completely different perspective than shooting a long distance telephoto.

The original photo looks pretty fishy, but I was stunned this morning to have a clear view of the Sierra Crest (Yosemite? Sonora?) from my bedroom window on the Peninsula (looking across the Sunol grade). This was just before sunrise and must be 160-180 miles. I've never seen that before and the peaks disappeared as soon as the sun came up (normally you just see Mt Diablo and Mt Hamilton).
If the photo comes out then I'll post it to see if anyone can identify the peaks.

I'm a believer now! Since my kids go up to Keyes, CA every Tuesday, I tagged along....camera in tow. We had two trips, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I couldn't see anything in the morning, but boy this afternoon was a different story. :D

You can click the photo to see it "full size" (800px X 400px)...

This was what I saw of the Sierra on Monday morning - any ideas what the mountains are? I'm looking just north of east from Redwood City on the Peninsula. Hey - maybe one of these is Half Dome too

Amazing!....I really didn't believe it. I wonder why in all these years I have never seen a photo of Half Dome from the valley. Too cool!

You guys crack me up!

Honestly I didn't believe it either, but I kept seeing the location from different people and cameras....so I had to try and find the place. I'm going to see if I can see it from Atwater. I tried this evening but I couldn't find any landmarks.

I worked with Wayne P (now in NC), and he has helped me id the peaks from that view.

Here's the picture:

Here is a Google Maps view of the camera site and lines to all the peaks:
