Trailhead Car Vandal Caught

Post by Wild Bill »

The Mammoth Times is reporting that a suspect has been arrested in connection with all the car
vandalism/burglaries at the eastern sierra trailheads. He was found in possession of stolen property. If you had your car broken into while it was at one of the eastside trailheads, particularly Bishop and Big Pine Creek, contact the Inyo County Sheriff's office in Bishop.
He was also siphoning gas out of cars. He got my hiking partner's car at Whitney Portal.

There is no excuse for this kind of behavior!

I hadn't heard of the car breakins. Good news. How was the bear carrying stuff?:)
Piece of cake.

As we left our car to spend a few days on the North Fork of Big Pine Creek, a hiker just returning came up to us and said that when he pulled into the parking lot 5 days before, all the cars there had their windshields smashed out! The person they caught also burned down the Schulman Grove Visitor Center before being caught. . .

The newspaper didn't say exactly what the perp did to each car. He took the "valuables" out of each car he vandalized. He siphoned a lot of gas, too. Believe it or not, that was his un-doing! People in Lone Pine were smelling a very strong odor of gasoline. The Sheriifs "followed their nose" right to the guy and made the arrest. He was in possession of all the stuff he took, also.

The Lord works in mysterious ways!
