Gibbs Yes, Dana No - Aug 15, 2008

Post by Ranboze »

Sooz and I had both done Dana sans Gibbs, so we decided to do Gibbs sans Dana on our eastern Yosemite weekend. We ascened the NW ridge, leaving the Mono Pass trail shortly after crossing Parker Pass Creek. Route finding was pretty easy, after all, it was just wide open, endless ankle breaking rock all the way to the summit (including all the falsies). We stayed on the west side of the ridge all the way up. We had planned on descending to the Dana-Gibbs saddle, but the descent off the NE side of Gibbs looked very steep and loose. We took a looksee at a couple options and ran over to the SW drainage with our tails between our legs. We dropped into a wonderful meadow with a refreshing spring and a 4-point buck who led us down the slope. Another great day in the sierra, followed by lobster taquitos at Whoa Nellie where we met up with Moose.

Walking outside is where I find what's inside.

Nice pics, Robin! Great trip, well, except for that one little tiny mishap at the craters... ;) Even that turned out well after all was said and done. (Thanks, Robin, for having the number to the tow folks and thanks Verizon for having cell phone coverage out there and of course, thanks to the tow guy who didn't give up, although his truck almost did!)
