While Laura was dabbling on the south side of highway 120, Sooz, Chip and I were tramping on the north side. We started at the walk-in Sawmill Campground and headed for the White-Conness saddle. We then turned north for the long slog to Conness. The final 400 to the summit was a total blast - scary airy in a couple spots, but there were great rock steps and handholds. We descended down the SE ridge face to Alpine Lake, and then down to the main use-trail. Mt. Conness is a great sierra peak. The views were stellar. We had some boomers on the way down, with a couple sprinkles, but hardly worth mentioning.

Very nice photos. Conness is truly one of the Sierra's best peaks and it is one of my favorites. My "standard" route is pretty similar to your descent route. It traverses the easy bench/talus/scree on the s. side of the E. ridge above Alpine Lake and the start (to avoid sidehilling) is going right over the top of 11239 above Saddlebag. The last 400 feet, however, are always the highlight.
Since my fishing (etc.) website is still down, you can be distracted by geology stuff at: http://www.fresnostate.edu/csm/ees/facu ... ayshi.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Conness is a peak I'd repeat. I'll keep your suggestion in mind, giantbrookie. Although the White-Conness saddle was fun, I'd like to try a different ascent route. Yep, that "final 400" is a blast!
