Re: Shell Creek/SLO County Wildflowers
Thank you, the snow is almost gone at my place, poppies should be blooming by July or August.
Piece of cake.

Those are spectacular! What are the light blue flowers in the first two pictures?

Re: Shell Creek/SLO County Wildflowers
In past years I've climbed up on that hill looking down on the baby blue eyes before too. Last Mid morning Thursday, I drove south along Shell Creek Road and noticed goldfields were out in force versus when I came through March 21. However didn't stop as it was obvious there were far less numbers of many other species I've worked there in the past. Then drove to Carrizo Plain NM where I spent a few hours along Caliente Ridge Road and Selby Camp areas. Best peaking wildflowers were at the later with most rest of the monument lacking water for a good bloom. Then continued south into Santa Barbara County where I found some excellent wildflower areas in some remote places.

Dave described it perfectly. The diversity just isn't at Shell Creek this year. In the spring of '05 it was the best I have seen since 1970 or so. The best spots are along the coast near San Luis Obispo and Cayucos. I also took a few along Hwy 198 a few miles east of Hwy 25. Here are a couple from Hwy 198:

I've never seen a carpet of Baby Blue Eyes before (unless you count the 6 square foot carpet in my front yard). That's wonderful.mountaineer wrote:Those are "Baby Blue Eyes". This image is from the "Flower Society":
