Ashford Peak and Ashford Mine

We drove to Ashford Mining road from Gold Valley in the morning. That gave us a late start. We took a more interesting route to Ashford Peak, but came down the traditional way, with a stop at Ashford Mine. On the way we found a mining tunnel with remains of a bighorn sheep and saw my first chuckwalla.

TT, it was fun hiking with you again, and meeting Rock Chip. Now that you're moved and all, lets get back on the trail! :D

Smith Mountain, Peak 5869 and TomG's birthday party

Birthdays are a great reason to get together! We've all been busy but got our group back together for Tom Gossett's birthday! We celebrated by climbing Smith Mtn and Pk 5869, and camped in Gold Valley. Birthday celebration included cake, presents, sparklers and a lot of fun and silliness. Happy Birthday TomG!

started off with a short hike to a plane wreck

lots of desert gold

short but steep hike

with great views of Telescope Peak
Image

we decided to add a little by hiking Peak 5869

getting down was more of a challenge without going back the way we came up

Later we celebrated TomG's birthday

and ended with a sparkler light show with everyone participating

welcome to the board Kathy - must be tough being on restriction while your friends go hike and leave you to your own devices

can you read the bottom of the cast:
Image
It says "If you can read this - please stand me up"

Sunday morning view of Telescope in the rear view mirror:

mountain hiking is addictive:
I can quit anytime I want - I just choose not to want

Welcome to the board, Kathy! I was noticing the that right hand while posting pix! How's the cast holding up? It looked like it took a beating this weekend! Can't believe you were hiking! Good for you! Looking forward to the next trip!

Here's the last of the pix!

Greenwater Road to Funeral Peak and some petroglyphs

This was my Friday off, and since the rest of the gang did Funeral Peak last year I decided to get it and cross it off the list.

Petroglyphs!
