Hi Buck

Looking forward to seeing some videos! Are you mainly going to
concentrate on the Sierra?
How do you like that fisheye? What plug-in do you use to correct
the distortion?
I hope Canon updates in Sept, but without any serious competition
in its price range they may hold off until Sony or Nikon introduces
something that threatens its sales?

nazdarovye, where you skiing in Yellowstone? I was trying to set up a trip this winter (or early spring) to ski into Fairyland Basin. I wanted to make a cool adventure video of the trip, but no one could pull it off on short notice so we're shooting for next winter.

Sierra Maclure, congrats on the hospital print sales! That's awesome! And hey, I wouldn't be dissin' your XTI, I'm just jealous it can shoot 12 MP, ha!

maverick, I'm gonna shoot high-def adventure videos from all over, but since the Sierra is closest, I'm sure the vast majority of my stuff will be High Sierra videos. But I'll get plenty of Lost Coast and northern Rockies in there too. Primarily backpacking / paddling / mountaineering / fishing, with some documentaries thrown in there now and then. We'll see how it goes! As for the fisheye, I like it. I like to go wiiiide a lot. I don't correct for the distortion because the fisheye perspective is what I bought it for. I consider it a specialty lens because fisheye can get overdone pretty quickly, ha! I just pull it out now and then for a different look.

Here's a couple fisheye perspectives (shot with Velvia 50)

Thanks... my shepherds were my best buddies for many years. We explored the wildest places imaginable in the lower 48. They slept with me, I took them to work with me, and we spent every weekend and vacation taking crazy adventures (including summers off in the northern Rockies for three years). They both passed away about a year ago, both from intestinal cancer. They were a mother daughter team, ages 13 and 12, so they lived their normal lifespan despite the cancer. Their names were Heidi and Sierra... their ashes are behind me on a shelf. I plan on dispersing their ashes in some of our favorite wild places, but I still can't quite do it yet. I miss them a lot and I thank God for allowing me to take care of them while they were here. We had a blast together. Now I put my energy into my little 22 month old boy, he's a kick! And my wife is preggers with another. Good times ahead!

Regarding the Canon 15mm fisheye, here's a shot with the fisheye taken with my Canon 20D, which has the crop factor. I didn't do any perspective correction on this image... it doesn't have much distortion with the cropped digital slr's. Of course it depends on what angle you hold the lens whether there's much fisheye effect or not... pointing straight ahead minimizes the effect. Also you can't attach any filters to the lens because the lens barrels out quite a ways, so this is just pure lens, no filter or PSing.

Sorry about your dogs/friends! I know what its like to loose a man's best friends is
like, but it sounds like you have alot of great memories together.
They probably explored places many only dream about seeing/doing!
