2021 trips booked?

Post by rlown »

Just curious. who has booked trips so far for 2021?
We still don't know the results of this Winter snowpack, but is anyone hedging bets? Covid shutdowns might hit again.

Just wondering,

If the backcountry doesn't open I'll lose my mind.

Not yet. Most of the places i want to visit are closed at this point. But thanks for reminding me to get my campfire permit and fishing license!

I did the fishing license, but forgot about the campfire permit.
On that note, fishing licenses can now be auto-renewed.

Campfire permits are available at https://www.readyforwildfire.org/permit ... re-permit/

Gotta love the video for the campfire prep. 10' diameter with a giant shovel, and the 5 gallon bucket of water. :)

Is it just me, or is that CA fishing license website one of the least intuitive sites in the last ten years???

It's just you. ;) I've been using it since it was released. It is a lot easier to use than recreation.gov..

I've used it too. But when you have to check the whole page to understand what to do next...they could learn from ebay.

And yes, recreation.gov is also a mess. But maybe I use that more often. Biggest problem there is that it doesn't allow you to search by region---only by name. So if the campground you want is full, your options are all the other campgrounds with names similar to that one---instead of campgrounds closest geographically to what you are seeking.

I have interacted with the director at CDFW who built ALDS. They are very open to input on the interface, if you so desire. Just use the contact us link or webmaster link and your feedback will be considered usually.

I use it for more than just a fishing license. It reports my waterfowl draws as well and pref points for big game.
Fishing licenses went up again.. sigh.

Once you figure out the license web page, it is nice.
Print out a temp license, and the real one comes in the mail in a few days. I like it! Oregon is similar. Buy on your phone, and the license is digital.
Don't have to find a clerk at Walmart to issue one, then spend half an hour trying to remember how.

The price is pretty cheap. I only have to pay for the second rod stamp.

I'm banking on a long hiking season this year since theres been maybe one storm and it's about to be almost 60 degrees in some parts of the Sierra this week. So with that in mind...

Booked a short trip MDW for Yosemite but will have to cancel it due to a wedding.

Booked the trailhead to Iva Bell hot springs for early June

Booked Kearsage for mid june. Havent decided exactly the end destination, but i figure it's time to finally walk up that pass. Was thinking Rae Lakes which is (randomly) the only part of the JMT i havent done in all of SEKI

Booked Devils Postpile to Yosemite Valley (my long trip for the season) around July 4th

If Burning Man doesnt happen again this year, will likely book another long trip during Labor Day. I'm thinking Taboose to Lakes Basin/Dumbbell/Amphitheater to Upper Basin loop.
