Sierra NF Snow Survey 5/1

Post by maverick »

Sierra NF:
The Sierra National Forest May snow survey, was conducted here on the Bass Lake Ranger District, April 29 - May 1, 2019.

We still have an average of 150% above “normal” snow over our 11 collection sites. During the very warm month April, the snow pack was reduced by 50 inches over most courses.

Here are some numbers to put things in perspective:

Cora Lakes
April 01: Depth 150”
May 01: Depth 102”

Jackass Meadow
April 01: Depth 93”
May 01: Depth 42’

Chiquito Creek
(Upper Chiquito)
April 01: Depth 85”
May 01: Depth 36”

On May 1st for the past 8 years, Chiquito Creek has only had snow 2 years, 2017 at a depth of 54” and 2019 at a depth 36”.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.
