Piute Pass-Upper Desolation 7/14-7/15

Post by Space Cat »

7/14 - 7/15
Piute Pass/Humphrey’s Basin/Upper Desolation lake

North lake campground 2
Along trail below tree line 2
Piute Pass 0
Upper Desolation Lake 2

We got reports from hikers that skeeters were horrible west of Piute Pass. They must be worse lower in Humphrey’s Basin where it is more wet because we didn’t experience anything that a little DEET couldn’t fix.

Re: John Muir Wilderness/JMT through Evolution Basin

Post by AaronRDavis »

Went from Florence to Darwin Bench, Evolution Basin up to Sapphire Lake, over McGee Lakes Pass and down through McGee Canyon. All clothes treated with Permethrin.

1-2 in all of the above. Many areas looked like they'd have terrible mosquitos--wet, soggy ground with standing puddles.
