Sherman Peak and Muah Mountain

Post by tomcat_rc »

Saturday met some of my KRVHC for a light day of hiking. we set out from Sherman Pass and hiked out to Coral Meadow - then swing south and hiked to Sherman Peak. some of us were on a short day allowable time schedule so this it in just right - great view of GWD, Kern Plateau, and western view of some of our Eastern Sierra Peaks.

On Sunday, Rachel and I drove up to Horseshoe Meadow to hike Muah
Moutain. it was the first time I had hiked south out of the Cottonwood
area. great views of some of the northern meadows and peaks including
Olancha, Cartago and Kern Peaks. we got a light sprinkle on the way
back near Mulkey Pass - not enough to don the rain gear.

at the trail head we met Tom Burge - he is the archeologist for the
SEKI area and a great guy to talk to. while hiking we found one "bird
point" arrowhead and a nice spear point.

Muah Mountain is 11,016ft in elevation so I was able to keep my streak
of consecutive weeks hiking above 10,000ft - all the way back to March.

ps - did not stop for Chaco Tacos on the way home - did stop for expresso mocha to power the drive though
mountain hiking is addictive:
I can quit anytime I want - I just choose not to want

Tom: Thanks for sharing your photos. Now I know what those flowers are called - monkey flowers.

I've been wanting to do Muah Mtn - from your photos it looks like a nice hike. I think I'll try to do it before the snow comes again.
